LIFE legend Audrey Hepburn was born 89 years ago today, May 4, 1929 in Brussels, Belgium. Before her big breakout role in the 1961 movie, Breakfast at
Tiffany’s, Audrey Hepburn was swooning hearts and wearing cowboy hats in
the 1959 movie, Green Mansions.
The film starred Hepburn as Rima, a jungle girl who falls in love with a Venezuelan traveler - who is played by none other than Psycho’s Anthony Perkins. The film, though, sort of bombed at the box office and was panned by critics.
Hepburn turned down the title role in the movie, The Diary of Anne Frank - to be in this film. In Green Mansions - Hepburn’s character is often accompanied by a fawn. To properly bond with the creature, the actress adopted a baby deer to properly get into the role. Isn’t that dear?

Audrey Hepburn’s character Jo Stockton in Funny Face is thought to be based on real-life model Suzy Parker. One of the leading models in the world during the 1950s, Parker herself appeared in the film during the “Think Pink” sequence. She was discovered at the age of 15 when her sister, “the world’s first supermodel” Dorian Leigh, asked for Suzy to be signed onto Ford Modelling Agency with her.
Anxious to represent Leigh, they agreed. Expecting to meet a similarly petite, extremely thin, flawless, pale-faced, electric blue-eyed, raven-haired younger version of Dorian, they were shocked to meet Suzy for the first time at a restaurant. At the meeting, the Fords said, “Oh, my God!” Parker was already 5'10", big-boned, and had carrot red hair, pale-green eyes, and freckles. She would become more famous than Dorian Leigh.
